We are ASARO, the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca
La capacidad creativa, es una estrategia que históricamente ha usado el pueblo de Oaxaca, para sobrevivir y revitalizarse. La Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios, surge de la necesidad de rechazar y transcender las formas autoritarias de ejercicio del poder y la cultura institucional que se ha caracterizado por ser discriminatoria y deshumanizante, al buscar imponer una única versión de la realidad y una moral basada en el simulacro.
Historically, the creative capacity has been a strategy that the pueblo of Oaxaca has used to survive and revitalize. The Assembly of Revoultionary Artists of Oaxaca grew out of the necessity to refuse and transcend the exercise of authoritarian forms of power and the institutional culture that has been characterized by being discriminatory and dehumanizing in looking to impose one version of reality and a morality based on simulacrum.
Frente a la irracionalidad del gobierno y sus formas opresoras de sostenerse en el poder, ASARO busca crear imágenes que sintetizan la fuerza crítica que nace desde la periferia, desde los barrios, los pueblos y los jóvenes.
Confronted with the irrationality of government and its oppresive forms of sustaining itself in power, ASARO looks to create images that synthesize the critical force that is born in the periphery, in the barrios, the pueblos, and in youth.
Retomamos la forma de asamblea, porque creemos en la posibilidad de recuperación de la fuerza comunitaria en el arte, y porque la asamblea es al forma en que los pueblos dialogan y toman decisiones basadas en los intereses colectivos. De esta manera, respondemos también ante el llamado de la APPO, conformar un frente amplio de resistencia civil.
We have retaken the form of the assembly because we belive in the possibility to recover the power of the collective in art and because the assembly is the form in which the pueblos have a dialogue and hold decisions based on collective interests. In this way, we respond as well before the call of the APPO to create an ample front of civil resistance.
ASARO se manifiesta a favor de la inclusión y en la lucha por generar nuevas reglas de participación social y un cambio profundo en la conciencia de los Oaxaqueños. Somos un movimiento de creación artística y de renovación de las reglas del juego político.
ASARO manifests itself in favor of inclusion and of the fight to generate new rules of social participation and a profound change in the conscience of Oaxacans. We are an artistic movement and a movement for the remaking of the rules of the political game.
Proponemos, iniciar un movimiento artístico, donde el fin sea el contacto directo con la gente, en las calles y espacios públicos.
We seek to initiate an artistic movement where the final goal is direct contact with people in the streets and in public spaces.
Creemos que el arte publico (diversas disciplinas artísticas) es una forma de comunicación que permiten el dialogo con todos los sectores de la sociedad y hacen posible la visualización de las condiciones reales de existencia, las normas y contradicciones de la sociedad que habitamos.
We believe that public art (in all its diverse artistic disciplines) is a form of communication that allows a dialogue with all sectors of society and which makes possible the visualization of the real conditions of existence—the norms and contradictions of the society which we all inhabit.
ASARO busca crear consciencia y generar ideas que ayuden a consolidar una corriente ideológica contemporánea, que tenga como centro los valores humanistas, para lograr romper los esquemas impuestos por el sistema y generar una sociedad libre de la enajenación y un arte revolucionario.
ASARO seeks to create consciousness and to generate ideas which help to consolidate a contemporary ideology, one which has as its core humanistic values, in order to break the schemes imposed by the system and to generate a society free of alienation and a revolutionary art.
Convocamos a todos los artistas que auténticamente busquen la transformación social a unirse a la ASARO, para ampliar nuestro frente creativo y de resistencia y acercar el arte a todos los sectores de la sociedad.
We call on all the artists who truly seek social transformation to join ASARO in order to broaden our creative front of resistance and in order to bring art closer to all the sectors of society.
