Today at Rice University, Rice For Peace and Justice hosted a teach-in on the border wall featuring Houston Environmental Lawyer Charles Irvine and Brownsville Teacher and Activist Elizabeth Stephens.

The Teach in lasted for an hour in a full classroom for more than 50 students and faculty. Both presenters gave powerpoint presentations that exposed the environmental, cultural and economic damage a fence would cause, as well as the stealing of land from property owners and the unconstitutional process taking place, where the Department of Homeland Security is waiving more than 30 laws designed to protect the environment, wildlife and Texas history.
We regrettably did not record this excellent panel, but Elizabeth took part in the radio show this evening and shared some insight into what this struggle looks like from the Rio Grand Valley. The Audio above is from the Houston Indymedia Radio Show of April 11th, and the Pictures below are from the teach in at Rice.

The slide behind him shows an area of Texas that will be south of the border wall. They have not revealed if this land will still be accessable by its owners, or if it will turn into a no mans land.

The Map of the Border behind Elizabeth shows areas where fence construction is commanded by the Secure Fence act of 2006. Thanks to Obama and Clinton for voting for it!!
