Anti-Sweatshop Rally at UH

UH Students Against Sweatshops held a Valentine's Day rally to get attention to their campaign to get the University to get the sweat out of UH logo clothes. Includes 6 minute video.

On Valentine's day the U of Houston Students Against Sweatshops ("SAS" rallied and marched to the president / chancellor's office. SAS goal is for the University to affiliate with the Worker RIghts Consortium http://www.workersrights.org/ a third party independent labor monitoring organization and to sign on to the Designated Supplier Program (DSP) a system for sourcing university logo clothes from sweatshop free manufacturers.
About 30 students marched and chanted pro worker slogans. The rally ended in chancellor Renu Khator's office where they delivered a huge Valentine which said "Dr. Khator show some love to the worker's, sign the DSP." Dr. Khator was out of town but her chief of staff took the Valentine on her behalf.
Dr. Khator, the UH President, has refused to meet with the students or address the issue even though the student government association unanimously passed a bill to affiliate with the WRC and to sign the DSP.
The rally was covered by the Houston Chronicle, KPFT and the Daily Cougar.

Khator claims that in her first 100 days on the job she's listening to the community, students, faculty and staff but her actions don't match up to her rhetoric.
