Telling the Galleria about Gaza

Saturday Afternoon me and my girlfriend went to the intersection of Postoak and Westheimer to support the protest called for by Palestinians for Peace and the Irish Unity Committee against the recent siege of Gaza by the Israeli regime. We arrived shortly after one, and had a wee bit of trouble finding parking in the bust shopping environment. When we joinged the protest, the turnout was modest, around 20-25 people. I took some photos and held a sign, periodically taking breaks for more photos as more and more folks arrived. When we left there were 100 people.

Traffic was very busy as it is almost always is at that intersection. Most folks tried to ignore us, and I would say we got more positive response than negative. The location was interesting, directly in front of a Starbucks who have been subject of protest and boycotts in other regions due to their suport for zionism and occupation. I was anticipating a protest of Starbucks as a possible component of this, but it did not really come up, I think the location was primarily for traffic.

There was no police precence until more than an hour into the protest when one cop showed up to look at the sound permit, and then seemed to leave. We left the protest soon after, I am unaware if cops came back.

The protest was very visible to thousands of drivers and full of positive energy and people from many generations. I'm glad I got to see it.
