At the Bank of America center in downtown Houston (700 Louisiana) for the next few days one can find a banner hanging in their lobby urging Bank of America to stop funding mountiantop removal. This comes in thanks to the newly formed chapter of Rainforest Action Network Houston.

In solidarity with mountainjusticesummer.org The newly started Houston Rainforest Action Network group targeted downtown Houston's Bank of America headquarters at 700 Louisiana St.

The security guards of bank of america were a little confused and off-guard as 7 members of Houston R.A.N. let loose a banner supported by over two dozen hellium filled balloons stating "Bank of america STOP Funding mountain top removal" in the main entrance lobby. There were no arrests and over several hundred fliers were handed out to people coming and going from the bank. As the banner climbed several stories to rest on the ceiling bank security admitted that the banner would remain there untill the balloon lost helium and dropped on it's own. I guess after funding king coal bank of america could not afford the costs of getting the banner down to save face.

Pictures will be posted later as they are available. For more info go to dirtymoney.org and mountainjusticesummer.org
And listen in on kpft. 90.1fm pacifica radio for peace at 5pm. today (Aug. 31) on local news

We will be doing more direct action here in Houston in the future. It is time for the consumers and concerned citizens in Houston to start holding corporations accountable and using their voices! We have set up a Myspace account for our R.A.N. chapter and I hope more Houston folks will be less adament to participate next time. It was a lot of fun!
