Report on Houston Emergency Demonstration Against Israeli Aggression

A great demonstration on a very hot afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who participated in yesterday's demonstration at the Israeli Consulate in Houston, which was organized by the Houston Emergency Coalition Against Israeli Aggression. Thanks, also, to everyone who helped organize and publicize the event but could not be present.

Between 150 and 200 people from diverse backgrounds united to send a powerful message of resistance to Israeli aggression in Palestine and Lebanon. The energy and spirit of the protest were awesome!

We are glad to report that the young man detained by police at the demonstration was released soon afterward and that Herb Rothschild, who was arrested on a bogus charge, was released early this morning.

The protest received substantial media coverage on Channels 2, 11, 13, 26, and 45. Today's Chronicle has an article and photo on the demonstration. El Dia, KPFT Radio, KTRH Radio, and CNN Radio also covered the protest.

We would especially like to thank the participants who came from Austin to be with us yesterday. And very special thanks to Nora and Dean of the Irish Unity Committee for their leadership and initiative.

Although Israeli aggression is unlikely to cease, the resistance is growing--both in the Middle East and here in the U.S. Our strength is growing, and other actions in solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon are being planned by various organizations in Houston. We'll send additional information on upcoming events as soon as possible.
