Emergency Demonstration at Israeli Consulate Monday
by Dean DeVoss Friday, Jul. 14, 2006 at 5:38 PM
ddevoss@hal-pc.org

Join us for a demonstration at the Israeli Consulate protesting the latest outrages by the Israeli government.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Israel's overwhelming military force against the people of Palestine and Lebanon has already cost the lives of hundreds of people and may provoke a horrific regional or global war. In this time of humanitarian crisis, it is imperative for all people of conscience stand in solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples in their struggle against Zionism and U.S. imperialism

The Houston Emergency Coalition Against Israeli Aggression is calling a demonstration for this Monday, July 17th from 4:30 pm to 6 pm in front of the Israeli Consulate (24 Greenway Plaza, on Weslayan between Richmond and 59 (SW Freeway), next to Edwards Cinema). The Coalition demands that Israel immediately cease all military attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. We further demand that the US cut off military aid to Israel in light of its violations of the US Arms Export Controls Act. The Coalition supports the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people and the end to the illegal occupation of Palestine.

We urge the broadest possible participation in the protest. For more information, call (832) 692-2306 or (713) 528-1817.

In solidarity,

The Irish Unity Committee
Member of The Houston Emergency Coalition Against Israeli Aggression

Bush Still Siding with Israel
by me Sunday, Jul. 16, 2006 at 2:35 AM

(this is not good)
“Bush held Israel blameless for its punishing attacks in Lebanon and said it was up to the militant group Hezbollah to lay down its arms.” <href=http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0715-03.htm>Associated Press

“Israel must put an immediate end to attacks against civilians and against civilian infrastructure in Lebanon, which constitute collective punishment. Israel must also respect the principle of proportionality when targeting any military objectives or civilian objectives that may be used for military purposes,” -Malcolm Smart, Director of Amnesty International’s Middle East Programme.

How about an Israeli missle tears through your family's house, killing your loved ones. How about your entire neighborhood gets attacked for the actions of some militant group you have nothing to do with.

How about a government knocks out electricity, the airport, attacks suburbs in your city and declares war on your country because of some group you have nothing to do with - and for every one "they" lose, they'll kill 30 of "you".

before and after hezbollah
by him Sunday, Jul. 16, 2006 at 7:08 PM

Bottom line: Israel attacked the Lebanese before Hezbollah and will continue to do so after they are gone. None of the targets they have hit (airport, bridges, gas stations, electrical power plants, neighborhoods) are Hezbollah targets. The Israelis themselves has mad it abundantly clear that this is not about their soldiers or Hezbollah.

Amazingly naive...
by The free and the brave Sunday, Jul. 16, 2006 at 7:50 PM

War 101

Israel is destroying any and all escape routes out of the country, and they are running the blocade to stop any re-supply efforts. They are trying to trap the Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon. Conversely, Hezbollah realizes this, and has a "use it or lose it" mentality. They are shotting every missile they have as fast as they can with being vaporized on the spot by the IDF Airforce.

It is military strategy you can learn in Jr High.

The campaign will be "all for naught" if the Hezbollah fighters manage to retreat over the Syrian border.

Get ready for the ground assault to finish the bastards off! It's coming whether you guys moon people at the consulate or not.

Israel has repeatedly droppped leaflets telling the civilians to leave, and its Hezbollah that intentionally operates in civilian populations, and it is Hezbollah that started it.

The flower child from Amnesty International needs to read "The Prince". How the hell do you win a war by responding "proportionally" to your opponent?

Pissed off Grizzly Bear
by The Lebanese Monday, Jul. 17, 2006 at 11:24 AM

Do not poke a sleeping grizzly bear (Israel) with a sharp stick, and then cry about getting mauled by that bear. Hozb-Allah is getting what they deserve. Lebanon will be a better place without them.
You want the grizzly bear to stop attacking, release the 2 kidnapped Israeli soldiers. But, Hozb-Allah would rather have thousands of casualties rather then releasing the 2 soldiers and look like they are weak. Hozb-Allah rather be ignorant then weak. Duhhh!!!

by me Monday, Jul. 17, 2006 at 11:26 AM

how about diplomacy 101 or international law 101?

The Lebanese government did not attack Israel. You're going to have to face the fact that so much of the world is condemning Israel for it's usual tactics, (most notably collective punishment) because they are and always have been inhumane in the eyes of those who give a shit about civilians.

whether it is common or effective military strategy is irrelevant to those whose lives hang in the balance.

And to the poster who made the comment about arabs - you have shown where you stand, how ignorant you are and ensured that no one takes your point of view seriously.

prisoner swap
by me Monday, Jul. 17, 2006 at 11:34 AM

yes another prisoner exchange would have been the smartest move. The Israeli gov does not care how many lives they have to sacrifice to get those two soldiers back, if they even really want them back. In their eyes some lives are worth everything and some are disposable, depending on ethnicity, religion, nationality.

yes, i think terrorists should negotiate with other terrorists instead of waging war. much better policy.

The crazy things I read here
by Rancid Monday, Jul. 17, 2006 at 1:05 PM

The Lebonese government has done nothing to control or punish the terrorists that hide on their side of the border and attack Israel.

How many hundreds of rockets have been launched from within Lebenon into Israel? Where did the kidnappers come from?

And as far as kidnapping goes, how do you think we should deal with kidnappers? If someone is kidnapped here in America, should we ask how much the kidnappers want, negotiate a lower amount and pay it each time? Anybody with common sense knows you don't reward kidnappers. If you do, they'll just do it again to get more.

When did being an Arab entitle unlimited behavior of any kind without reprecussions or even criticism?

you are the ones with the double standards
by me Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2006 at 12:38 AM

I DO criticize hezbollah and violent religious groups of any kind that kill innocent people.

When the reprecussions are a thousand times worse than the original "crime" we begin to see which "criminals" have the most power, resources and weapons - in other words, we see where the biggest problem lies.

State terrorism poses a bigger threat to human life and liberty, and perhaps even more so when its oppression and violence causes, or is a major contributor, to resistance that kills or threatens innocent people - (non-state) terrorism.

Yes! you should ALWAYS negotiate with kidnappers instead of killing scores of their neighbors and waging war on the country they reside in..because the latter approach is much worse than the original kidnapping.

Various means of diplomatic pressure could have been used if the Lebanese gov refused to investigate and arrest those responsible.

And Israelis who oppose the states' killing and oppression of palestinians have every right to defend themselves domestically (as individuals and as a group) - against any palestinian group who would kill them for being in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong country.

I am against all violent religious right-wing/conservative groups, parties, movements, ideas, and systems.

I am against all people who take innocent life. Can any of the pro-war posters on this thread say that? No.

Two things
by Rancid Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2006 at 7:18 AM

There have been over 1,000 missiles fired into Israel from Lebanon. (http://upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20060718-062550-2839r), and I don't remember word one from any Lebanese official saying give us a week to find the kidnappers and get the soldiers returned. If Lebanon had immediately gone after Hezbollah, this could have been averted. Why didn't they? Simple, they support them.

Meeting the demands of kidnappers is paying extortion, and once you cave in it becomes a regular event. And I think we have all seen, what mid-Eastern kidnappers tend to do to their captives.

If we could rewind the clock, the simplest course of action to avert this war would have been for Hezbollah to not kidnap the soldiers. Of course, it's not politically correct to denounce that evil act which started this whole thing.

Amazement
by E.Fitchett Friday, Jul. 21, 2006 at 6:24 AM

I am so totally amazed. I came upon this website on accident and began to read it and I am amazed. Its hard for me to believe in this day and age of the media, with 2000 years of education, exploration and science..that there could exist a group of people more devoid of brains.
To illustrate my point; everyone knows that communism doesnt work...yet here you are, trying to get a collective to work. In my experience communism only works with poor people and criminals...criminals extort the money needed to survive, poor people just take turns begging from the government and from those dumb enough to support them.
another illustration, I see anti-semitism here. While I myself am not Jewish, I do practice the live and let live policy. Thats something You people dont do.Everyone knows the communists killed more jews than the nazis.
perhaps thats the reason you're demonstrating against israels' self defense.
I dont want to hear that crap about "disproportionate to what hizbollah did to them"....Its actually proportionate.
Hizbollah has seats in the lebanese parliment.
These terrorists dont wear uniforms, hide among the civillians and use them for shields..what do you expect the Israelis to do? if it was your son or daughter, brother or sister that was kidnapped or killed..you'd probably bitch that it was the governments' fault.
Stuart Mills was correct when he said that war wasn't the worst thing...apparently gutless communists are the worst thing.
