Today I attended the rally called for by the Troops Out Now Coalition at the Veterans Memorial Hospital. It was sparsley attended, a very uneducated estimate would be about a hundred people came to either the protest or the rally. We held signs at the intersection from 11 until 1pm, with many more honks of support than middle fingers or negative responses.
I chated with a high school Trotskyist from Clear Lake, a couple that moved down here recently from Alaska, and had the privedle to be intervied by KPFT's Prodegy reported Luke Jones.
at 1pm we walked North to the Edge of Herman Park, where we had a rally with Music by the Free Radicals, and a Cypress High School punk band called Drunken Meditations(I think), as well as speakers from New Orleans, the West Coast, and a lot of good folks from Houston. I handed out a bunch of copies of The Alarm and got to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich and a juice box that Gloria Rubac shared with me (Thanks Gloria!).
While we definatly have a ways to go before building a movement capeable of stoping the war machine, I saw today as a really positve space to network and chat with people who know we have to stop our decent down the path of destruction.
