the Montrose, my neighborhood only days ago
by ~Bradley Friday, Sep. 23, 2005 at 10:36 AM

hello my loved friends in Houston,

I don't know why things are going the way they are. I feel really bad to be in santa cruz now, looking at photos of the Montrose, my neighborhood only days ago. vinny, blank and i came to town and were welcomed with open arms. now, we are all back on the west coast, with our hearts and minds hoping for the best in Houston and all of Texas as well as New Orleans and all of Louisiana.

we stocked up on water and batteries at that CVS for our trip to New Orleans. we bought coffee drinks at Agora so we could use their internet connection to publish photos and audio from Houston and New Orleans. I walked to Chapultepec, giving vinny time to import audio onto my computer, and returned with a couple of veggie chimichangas. We went to the Proletariat looking for a birthday boy. We got on the internet, edited audio, published media and filed stories at KPFT.

we made new friendships and strengthened previous ones during our time in Houston. We got picked up at the Bush airport at 4:30am by a friend I had met only days prior on IRC. We were fed delicious falafels and coconut soup upon our arrival. Everywhere we went, everything we did, we were treated so well by our friends in Houston. Car rides around Houston, homes and beds and couches for sleep, home cooking and local veggie restaurants, supplies to get down to new orleans, access to the internet and the airwaves... the list could go on for a long time... but the point is that we are very appreciative of our friends in Houston and all the support that y'all gave us 'west coast IMCistas'

12 days, 12 days, 12 days... it keeps running through my head. why did i pick 12 days? that was the number of days vinny and i had from the time we left santa cruz to the time we returned. we got a ride to Bush airport 5:30am on Thursday morning. The panic and reality of Rita began to set in on Wednesday. I am also left to wonder... why was our airplane from Houston to Las Vegas only half full?

I do not understand why this is happening.

I've been running out of words since i first began to leave this comment. 'stay strong' if that makes y'all feel better, or cry your eyes out... feel free to call me, email me, or stop by. y'all have a place to stay in santa cruz. please keep each-other safe.

lots and lots of love from santa cruz.

sincerely,
Bradley

Most photographers use the term "non-commercial" as opposed to "anti-capitalist." If you're anti-capitalist, you must hate living in America. Why put yourself through that? There are dozens of countries that aren't capitalist.

I think I'd go to Sweden. They have industry, but it's Socialist. I might think about staying in America and whining about mean old businessmen, but no, I'd go to Sweden.
