95.3 KAMP had it's official debut yesterday at noon. It was well received by residents inside dome city. volunteers handed out radios which had a promotional sticker on them informing the recipients of the radio stations frequency. After being on the air for several hours - red cross volunteers began receiving requests for radios from interested parties inside the dome and they made their way out to the lot on their behalf. Later in the night, i had an opportunity to speak with several people who heard about the radio station form listening to it on a nearby boom box. They expressed heartfelt thanks for the station and were eager to tune in with their new radios and hear broadcasts that were directed for them as opposed to the corporate medias 'about them' coverage. In spite of all the obstacles that were laid before the KAMP team - the evacuees inside appreciate their hard work and expressed gratitude for the low power FM project. When I left the dome, local producer Zin was manning the control room well into the night; At 11:15 PM, but was able to pick the station up and listen to Zin's broadcast all through the third ward and well within the downtown area.
