An eye witness account of unnecessary police actions.
After gathering in front of the Four Seasons Hotel to protest the Halliburton annual shareholder's meeting inside, a group of protesters broke off from the group to make their way to Halliburton's headquarters. At the headquarters, a line of riot police were guarding the entrance and horse cops were in the streets to hold back the protesters. While the protester's were acumulating on the sidewalk across the street from Halliburton's entrance, the police side-stepped their horses into their signs. Then, as the protesters were making their way into the nearby park, some of the protesters made it into the intersection. They were quickly chased away by the police, who charged their horses into the park, trampling some activists in the process. I want to emphasize that the cops rode their horses inside the park and onto the sidewalk, which was the site of the trampling. One woman was trampled from behind. The next unneccesary police intervention that I witnessed again occured on a sidewalk. There was no provocation from the protesters, other than the fact that they were temporarily standing on a driveway to a parking garage. Here, the police charged their horses onto the driveway, splitting up the protesters by running theor horses into them. After this provocation, a couple of protesters went into the street and were violently arrested.
