With hundreds of millions of people watching on TV, an upside down American flag was prominent during the national anthem at the Super Bowl. A flag flown upside down is an internationally recognized symbol of danger and trouble. It's not unusual to see anti-war activists marching with upside down American flags to show the USA is in a state of crisis. Apparently someone handed out large flags to fans, who were supposed to hold the flags right side up for "patriotism". Near the end of the national anthem (around "land of the free, and the home of the brave"), the TV camera view from the stands focused on an upside down flag! Brilliant move by a fan. Security would probably confiscate any anti-war banners. The good fan positioned the upside down flag in perfect position in front of the camera.
