I'm sure there's a good reason for this. Duane would NEVER act in such a cowardly and despicable manner. After all "he's one of us." "He's on our side." "We just have to show him the way."

For their explanations try 713.864.8646 or 713.932.6560. I'm sure Duane and Otis would just LOVE to hear from you.

Wendy was replaced
by ej (change is good) Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 1:08 AM

She knew it was a temporary gig the entire time. When Pacifica finally allowed Bradley to hire a full time receptionist with benefits, they had to put out an ad for the position and Wendy simply lost out in the competition. That's the working world for ya!
And as much as the local loons are upset about it, many people, including quite a large number at the station, are relieved.
The station will likely become a warmer place now.

what do you know about "the working world"
by Stan Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 1:54 AM

ej has some knowledge of the working world? Is that from a past life? Or just what you hear about it 2nd hand from your supporters?

Also, aren't you the guy that campaigned regularly that KPFT should fire Wendy based on her marriage to a Pacifica activist that you disagree with and hate? Guess it finally worked.

Now go get your weekly allowance from your girlfriend and celebrate proper

and hey, working man who paid for your recent trip to NYC?

the fix?
by Stan Hamilton Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 2:01 AM

some inside innuendo--make what you will of it.

Dr. Dan of MD Anderson, Stan, Greggie, and the boyz put lots of pressure, thru their buddy Leslie Cagan, to get rid of Wendy. Dan and Duane, neither of whom has any spine, went along to quiet the crowd and shut up Scooter. What a profile in courage.

Bring back Gantner!

Sheila and Shannon were right. Don't all of you apologists for Duane and Otis feel really stupid and embarassed right now?????????

Wendy was a liability
by ej (as they say in Texas -- SoL) Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 3:11 AM

While it is quite true that many people around Pacifica sought to have Wendy removed from her position there due to her abuse of power (like falsely claiming that a KPFT listener called CPS on her kids), it is simply absurd to claim that was the reason that Bradley hired a better qualified candidate for the position. The occassional calls for her removal occured during the 18 month period tht she was employed. So, she received $25-$30 K in the process. (Take the money and run!)
And dragging Leslie Cagan's and Dan Coughlin's name into the mix is even more embarrassing on the loons part.

by inside the loop Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 3:28 AM

the word around town is that the same old gang of greggy, danny the m.d. from MD Anderson, bellwein, stan the smear-man, bugged leslie cagan--who jones claims to have in his pocket. of course duane was glad to be rid of any controversy so he could go meditate. why does this surprise anyone? this is what kpft has become. it's been clear since the begiining of the bradley time in power. he's really a patethic new age fraud and everyone who kisses his ass is worse.

The moan of pathetic losers
by ej (itz a conspiracy!) Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 3:39 AM

It would be nice to see such an argument buttressed with evidence and facts.
Or even primary sources, like Wendy herself, or Bradley, or even squirter.
But all we get is anonymous rumor mongers.
Again,it is completely hilarious to see Leslie Cagan's name brought into this.
But chat it up all you want. She ain't comin' back, and it ain't doing any damage.

What is dispicable is that supposed "real Pacificans" are publicizing the home address and phone number of station employees.

You people are harrassing individuals and their families without having any honest information, and you never will be because YOU DON'T WORK there and you don't make the personnel decisions.

It's incidents like this that are ruining the entire network.

In addition, it's articles like this that also make IndyMedia look more and more like yet another failed experiment by people who presumed that "news by committee" will somehow rather serious and important information. In this case, you're just spreading gossip and potentially inciting violence by creating some firestorm of controversy.

For the record....
by Nick Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 9:47 AM

I am opposed to Wendy's having been axed, and I think that despite Duane and Otis telling several people today that they did so for valid yet undisclosable reasons does not hold up. Whatever the reasons, Wendy was great at her job and committed. Regardless of anyone else's qualifications, she should still have her job. If there was indeed something that made it legally or otherwise necessary for this decision to be made, then I believe Duane and Otis should do whatever it takes (getting waivers signed, changing policies, etc.) to at least explain things to Wendy, if not to everyone.

I think protesting people at their houses is usually a bad tactic, but if Wendy asks the community to use that particular tactic, I'll go.

Let's make the record clear, as well
by ej (Wendy requires no personal responsibilty) Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 10:19 AM

The original post in this thread states (twice) that KPFT manager Duane Bradley fired Wendy Schroell. This is entirely untrue. The fact is that Wendy had applied to the permanent staff position as administrative assistant, but lost out to a more qualified candidate. She couldn't get fired from a job she didn't have. I'm sure other people applied for the job as well, and they equally lost out.
The original post also falsely stated that Bradley was throwing Wendy out in the street. Another false claim. Wendy held that temporary position for 18 months and knew the deal. She had ample time to seek out other possibilities for employment. Additionally, Wendy has a non-working husband, Curt, who could have been seeking employment during these many months to pay the bills around his house for their two kids. Maybe he'll start looking now instead of spending all his time phoning in to KPFT call in shows under phony names.
Secondly, one Stan Hamilton (sic) implies in the thread that Wendy losing her position was some sort of a conspiracy by listeners, programmers, LAB members, iPNB members and the Pacifica executive director. This is also false. Some of these people did criticise Wendy for abusing her position (which is very well documented), but she was never let go for her gross abuses in any case, over a period of many months. But the finger never got pointed at Wendy by Hamilton (sic) for what she did, just at her critics, who had no role whatsoever in how Bradley decided who to hire for the permanent full time staff position. It looks to me that he simply chose the most qualified candidate, but perhaps he also took Wendy's actual job performance into account as well. And he should know about that, since he worked with her every single day at the station. Don't need no others to tell him how poorly she did.
Also, on another list, a seemingly anonymous poster is claiming that I was involved in a gloat fest at KPFT on Tuesday in celebration of Wendy losing her position. This is also false, since I only found out about it late Wednesday nite. When asked to provide evidence that I did any such thing, the poster stated that I was seen at the station on Tuesday. I certainly was there that night, but there is no evidence at all that I gloated about Wendy's situation or even knew anything about it. I was there to say hello to Ernesto Aguilar and pick up a program schedule for a person who wanted to get a subject on ther air. I saw several people at the station that night, including Ernesto and his program staff, Clif, Staci, the two Shannons, chickpea and Henry. If any of those witnesses noticed me gloating about Wendy on Tuesday night, they are free to come forward.
And here is the real deal: Stan Hamilton (sic) on this HIMC thread falsely claimed that Duane chose someone else to replace Wendy in order to shut her husband Curt (scooter) up. Actually this is bass ackwards. The fact is that Wendy was hired in the first place to attempt to govern her out-of-control husband.
Message to the loons: All your efforts here are merely damaging Wendy even more, and nothing you want will come of it, besides causing unrest, which everyone is completely bored by anyway.
Message to squirter: Time to get a job, homey!
Message to Wendy: It was real, and it was fun, but it wasn't real fun.
Message to Nick: Yeah, you go right ahead and protest at Duane's house, on behalf the paid KPFT employee who falsely claimed that a listener/activist called the CPS on her kids, which was merely the most transgressive of her many abuses.

IMC kids at it again
by Pacifican Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 3:25 PM

Once again Nick Cooper is taking his orders from Duane Bradley, like he did last year during the Loel Coleman controversy. Duane cries and Nick hides a message. Other people's personal data is put on here and Nick doesn't hide it.

Again, it's very clear that IMC has no independence from Duane Bradley. How shameful. Loel and Freeland were right.

Those of you who don't go to KPFT and sit back and talk about the detailed inner workings are so full of shit. You tap the rumor mill daily for your scrubbings and then exclaim your supreme regency over the knowledge you manufacture.

You are cowardly drive by 'experts' who show your dedication to the lowest possible position.

You'll never be a contender as a credible and honorable person.

Still haven't seen anyone here who accurately describes what is going on at KPFT, only the idle bickerings of a bunch of marginalized ninnies.

And for the Buzzanco clowns who continue to show their stripes by saying 'kids', your bold attempt at showing how 'dedicated' you are to the big ol activist world only implode upon arrival because you are full of hot air. The 'kids' comments show your elitest view that you are somehow empowered with greater knowledge and wisdom. Your antics prove otherwise.

What exactly are you dedicated to? Your own gloating pride and your spite.

Clear the bullshit out of your brain so you can see what the real problems are. They are there. You can't see them because you over project your own insecure bullshit all over them.

Basing your garbage off of ill informed positions only makes you look really stupid.

Loon echo chamber
by ej (same old record spinnin' 'round) Thursday, Oct. 02, 2003 at 11:52 PM

Absurdist drama to the max!
Itz the same tiny screeching gaggle. The same issues all over again, and again.
Maybe if Wendy is rehired by Duane then Buzzanco will come back on the air. Maybe if KPFT News or HIMC News did some programs exposing ej, or the good doctor, or George Barnstone as traitors to the flag there might be some hope for the Eithopians. Maybe if these types are threatened with lawsuits they'll shut the hell up.
HIMC kidz bad - Ken Freeland good! Where's Loel Coleman when we need him? Wendy has no troublesome husband, she's just a victim of Simon la Gree! A widow with two darling kids with huge eyes who can't afford to pay the mortgage!
Dumb ol' Duane has no willpower of his own, he's being manipulated by CIA mind control mesmerism.
None of this is about white, middle-aged, middle class people.
These posters are anonymous, not really KPFT programmers in hiding. Really!
Leslie Cagan and Dan Coughlin are cheep dates.
The Pacifica Mission is the most important idea on the planet. Really is, man!
The mission says that oadie gets to retire from Pacifica, that KPFT build a daycare center for squirter's kidz, that Wendy gets paid to trash listeners, that squirter gets a red line into the station for call in programs, that the only qualified election candidates belong to the peepee radio slate, that only white people can truly speak for minorities, that KPFT has caught a plague and must be cleansed by the proper Druidic witch doctors -- and on and on.
Play that old record, again, and again, and again!

Edwin is so full of shit his one good eye is brown.
Edwin was there Tuesday. Since the announcment had not been made to Wendy till Wednesay that she was fired Edwin could not speak about the issue. The reality is that the decision to terminate Wendy had been made days before she was actually informed.

Edwin is not totally stupid. He was involved in the forces that led to Wendy's termination. He knew it was a done deal. He had to come to KPFT to be in front of Wendy one last time. So she could see the face of her tormentor.

Edwin says that Wendy had not job to be fired from. This is a crock. This is the info from the KPFT web site prior to it being changed to reflect Wendy's termination.

'Fraid not
by ej ( wutz all the hullaballoo?) Friday, Oct. 03, 2003 at 6:10 AM

Perfect evidence of an infected loon mind above.
It is being alleged there that I knew about Wendy losing her position prior to the announcement (I didn't even know there was an announcement) on Wednesday, but I was keeping it a secret. Fact is, I heard it through the grapevine at 11pm Wednesday night and immediately posted it to newpacifica and the KPFT issues board.
Other gar-baghe states that I was at the station on Tuesday to torment Wendy about it. I was there Tuesday night around 10:30pm on other business, but Wendy was nowhere in sight. Another lie shot down. In fact, I don't recall seeing Wendy at the station since mid-September, when I was helping Clif run some errands.
I did not have any part in Wendy losing her position, at all. Nor am I aware of anyone who had contacted Duane Bradley during his consideration on who to hire for the new full time permanent staff position. Many people knew there was a chance that Wendy could lose out in the competition for that job, but nobody knew the answer until it was already decided and acted upon.
Wendy held a temporary position, and once Duane was able to create a new position of full time permanent, Wendy had to apply for it like everybdoy else did. There was a display ad for it in the Houston Press and a notice on the KPFT website. Other people applied too, no doubt. Wendy and the rest all lost out to the better qualified candidate -- simple story.
For those of you who think Wendy should have been awarded that new position even tho' she was less qualified, I point you to the equal opportunity commission.
Am I happy she no longer receives listener money? Hell yeah! And so are many others. Does this point to a shattering of the system of patronage at KPFT? No one knows yet, but we'll be looking for more signs.

The station's listenership is way down in the Arbitrons. (ask Otie) KPFT is at the BOTTOM of FM station listenership. (that's right kids, no one out there is listening to your microphone addicted ego trip treehouse.)

The money is down. (watch the next on-air fund drive tank, look at the last drive's #'s, compare the books with other Pacifica stations on the main Pacifica website.)

The station is programmed inconsistently, shows are ALWAYS moved with little or no mention to the listener, and when aren't there unprepared programmers on, missed phone calls, dead air, miscued tape feeds, late satelite hookups, and on and on and on. (note to mismanagement: this is why nobody listens to your station. the american public is tough on that shit.)

And now on to the "Elections"
an unfortunate experiment in amplified chaos at expense of the last morsel of FM band air time in the USA with the remote possibility of helping Poor & Working people Worldwide.

KPFT's newly elected LSB will most likely be instrumental in taking the whole network down, just like PNB members Palmer and Acosta almost did in the recent past.
Tell that to anyone at any of the other stations in the network and they'll laugh in your face.

So long for now Pacifica.

Such misguided fools
by dedicated observer Saturday, Oct. 04, 2003 at 2:02 AM

"So long for now Pacifica."

I will never get used to the open contradiction of the people who write here. The celebration of failures at KPFT is beyond petty. It shows poor discernment for what is needed in our city and country. It shows that the egocentric comments of the authors are more important than making long term change.

Expressing aggrevation about the station's management or the direction is always going to be crutial, but celebrating the potential end of the organization itself shows how anti-progress some of you people are.

Instead of going and sharing your infinite wisdom about what is best, you continue this drive-by shit slinging.

It shows how little imagination and concern you have.

It shows that you prefer a world of chaos and violence.

Those who claim to be 'activists' and do this demonstrate a gross misunderstanding of the power of broadcasting.

You are the equal of a cancer in the body. You wish to see the destruction of Pacifica so that you can be right.

Rest assured there are plenty of people wise enough to know that they can criticize the management or even programming at the station and yet not have to wish for the destruction of Pacifica.

Oh, and as for the various comments about 'cowards' or 'craven' 'kids' etc, you are the cowards. You speak about world peace while basing your values on dominance. Your shoes are in your ears and your hat is as a sock.

If you want to end violence elsewhere you can't be so quick to demonstrate your violent behavior locally. Violence only leads to more pain and potentially violence.

Feel free to rant as you wish because your anger has little merit to the wise and dedicated. You are seen as immature and destructive. Most of the people I know who constantly throw out these words are some of the biggest cowards I may ever know.

I lead that list with Bob Buzzanco. He is a terrible leader and a classic example of these contradictions. Though I have not a single doubt Buzzanco wants to continue challenging the wrongs of the world, the assertions that anyone who crosses him is craven continue to show he too is willing to live using OPPRESSION as his tactic. It shows he hasn't learned that we must first remove our OPPRESSIVE nature to make the change.

Mr. Buzzanco (professor still has yet to be seen, barker is more the title) continues to use the 'IMC Kids' bait. This is another demonstration of his belief in a tier system of age and experience to maintain his dominance over others. It's perhaps why our community isn't as effective as it could be. We are often seen as hypocrits because of these contradictions and I'm not impressed with the petty nature of this lauded historian.

Truth is always more than enough to make change and all the petty antics that many of you wish to continue with are going to continue to undermine your progress and credibility.

Most of you would never be able to receive the violence you dole out. Many of you are scared shitless about a wide variety of issues and your comments reflect this fear.

Feel free to froth or feel free to own up to it and get back to work.

Each letter that Mr. Buzzanco writes about people in his brutish manner potentially loses the life outside our locale because he decided shooting at KPFT is more important than AIDS, CAFTA, WTO, Bush, and on...

I like the way you think, Dedicated Observer. We should definitely follow your lead in wiping away any tinge of moral conscience we may still suprisingly have. To not accept the fact that we must bow down and ignore the hypocrisies at KPFT in the sense you describe in order to cover what you consider 'more progressive' issues (as you listed for Mr. Buzzanco to work on) in lieu of what you consider 'less progressive' issues such as public media and the corruption involved in it is utter savagery...right? Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! Now.....which show did you have to kiss ass for in oder to be a part of it? Let me guess....you became involved in KPFT/Pacifica when you figured out you could get some sort of personal ego gain from it. It's an illusion, baby, cause there ain't nobody listening to the inconsistent crap on KPFT any longer...arbitrons and $$ goes to show that. Oh and....btw KPFT radio ain't magical.

"I like the way you think, Dedicated Observer. We should definitely follow your lead in wiping away any tinge of moral conscience we may still suprisingly have. "

Moral conscience is wiped away when you reduce your methods to petty infighting and name calling. You can still work for truth in all the measures without reducing your moral standing. If you question that, then perhaps you need to back off for a bit and refect.

"To not accept the fact that we must bow down and ignore the hypocrisies at KPFT in the sense you describe in order to cover what you consider 'more progressive' issues (as you listed for Mr. Buzzanco to work on) in lieu of what you consider 'less progressive' issues such as public media and the corruption involved in it is utter savagery...right?"

This is simply your projection. You have your ideals set to fight and win. This leads to a subjegated class of people, even if those people once did wrong. You wish to dominate the scene for a higher purpose and seem to fail in understanding that oppression cannot beat oppression. The rest of your petty comments are simply dramatics.

"Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! Sieg Heil Dedicated Observer!! "

Proof again that you wish to view the world in domination terms. I am as human as you.

"Now.....which show did you have to kiss ass for in oder to be a part of it? "

None as I don't do that. You are projecting your methods.

"Let me guess....you became involved in KPFT/Pacifica when you figured out you could get some sort of personal ego gain from it. "

Wrong, but the fact that you guess instead of ask screams a lot about you. Having fun yet or are you actually interested in anything outside your petty mental chatter?

"It's an illusion, baby, cause there ain't nobody listening to the inconsistent crap on KPFT any longer...arbitrons and $$ goes to show that. Oh and....btw KPFT radio ain't magical."

I don't believe in magic because I perform enough to know that method is the magic. Your comments about Arbitron ratings spell out your structural vision and more important it spells out your lack of vision.

Also, factually speaking the station has done better financially under the current management than in the past, despite the obvious shortcomings and misdirected agendas.

Get something straight Dedicated Student (get the rocks and arrogance out of your head if you wish to be a student) I'm not happy with KPFT or the Houston Activist community. I've seen significantly better organization and cooperation. The difference between you and I will be seen in what we dedicate to.

You are dedicated to fighting and I have no such agenda.

Your post wreaks of your cynicism and not of your discernment. There should be more time spent on deciding how YOU would do things differently.

If you are so wise to how the station can function, then it becomes your responsibility to change it.

It's a sign of a shallow person to squawk endlessly about shit and not spend a moment cultivating something positive.

Care to raise the level of dialogue or are you capable?

Priorities....

For each post you make that further attacks HIMC, KPFT, or other organizations, another person waits to see if improvement will ever happen for their lives.

Stop spending your time projecting and spend more of your time in good faith. You can do that and still be disappointed or even angry with KPFT's management.

I remain disappointed in both, but willing to add positive input to their futures because they are both needed.

let me guess your part of the crack news squad?"

Projection.

No, I am not on a show or part of a news squad.
Care to continue, or do you actually care about dialogue?

Your projection that I must be INSIDE the station in some manner shows how you wish to pursue the fight. Perhaps instead of trying to figure out what role I have in this, (setting up to argue from an ad hominem basis) you could actually answer to what was written.

That is if you have any interest outside of flame wars and trolling.

Um, posting things on message boards hasn't changed the world yet. If you have a beef with anyone at KPFT go up to them and tell them. Don't waste cyber space.

Also, if your feelings about Wendy are so strong, as mine are, then go do something about.

Research and find out all of the information, find real information not internet information or goofball squad information, and act accordingly.

Why do y'all egg each other on?

Go do what you feel you have to do.

The ludicrious publishing trend
by dedicated observer Sunday, Oct. 05, 2003 at 8:21 AM

Most here who complain or at the least comment on posting anonymously are gadflies. They don't read for knowledge but for food. They want to eat more and more shit. Got some shit, they got the mouth to consume it with.

Many people post with other names so that this discourse, however petty, won't interfere with the real work they are doing. Why? Because some people can't separate the opinions from the work needed to get done.

Further, by not consistently posting names, many authors are trying to focus on the issues and not the people.

If Edwin post something, most people will launch on it because it's Edwin. Sometimes Edwin has a really good take on a situation and a wiser person would know how to take what is worthy and discard the rest.

If Buzzanco posts something with his name, those who are angry with him or support him will often do so simply because of the name.

I believe it's best to speak to the issue and keep on working.

back to work.

even if not Nick...
by abaleada Tuesday, Oct. 07, 2003 at 9:06 AM

Even if Nick had not learned about the posting of people's private addesses before I noticed this thread last week, I would have contacted IMC admin and notified them. I don't care who has what opinion on this matter - I don't know enough to actually form an opinion - no-one has the right to facilitate the harrassment of any individual on his personal time. We're Pacifica. Not KKK. We protest in streets. They burn crosses in people's lawns. Got it?

Politics, to these types, is not a sophisticated subject, rather it is a blunt tool to bash over your perceived opponent's heads, whomever they may be this week.
I think they picked it up from the Vikings, or something.
