Pro-War counter-demo downtown next Saturday

Some musings.

I notice a little debate going on about the coming pro-war rally at Jones Plaza this Saturday, March 1 from noon to 2pm.
It's being promoted, from what I understand on KPRC radio as well as by the right wing giun nuts, the Freepers.

Well, some activists are opposed to a counter-demonstration, and others seek feedback based on whether there is an ability to get a strong counter-demo organized.
All fine and good as far as debates go.
But in any case there will be a counter-demo. Some other people are already promoting it.
So, the question, it seems , is whether certain activists will attend the counter-demo that is on.
Or maybe that is totally irrelevent. See, some people don't go to this or that organized function, no matter who is organizing it. It's not like anybody or any group has a monopoly on what happens citywide.
"You don't want to lend you name to it? Fine. We'll miss you." sort of thing.
Anyway, it might be fun to go. It would no doubt give people an indication as to who does, as far as real people, support the war. You can also make fun of their crude jokes about the French.
An interesting point that comes up is that if KPRC is promoting this on air, then we have dueling radio stations if you consider KPFT. Hmmm ... almost smells like a worthwhile story for IndyMedia.
Another thing: When thousands of anti-war activists rallied downtown, they were met with a dozen counter-protesters. Yet, the very next day the Houston Chronicle featured a foto of the counter-protesters in their story about the rally.
The media thrives on conflict. This will be an opportunity for anti-war protesters to get more coverage, to present their side to the public once again.
